Signal processing – What is signal processing?
In signal processing, information is primarily received and transmitted. A distinction can be made between digital and analog signal processing. Digital signal processing is very relevant in today’s world and plays a major role in determining everyday processes. Information is transmitted here in the form of digital signals. Digital systems are needed to work with this information. Only with the help of these can an exchange of information take place. Both the generation and the processing of digital signals are possible with digital systems. Depending on the application and use, different systems are useful. Nowadays, communication technology is an important part of our everyday life and a crucial part of digitalization. Digital signal processing is also used in many industries to optimize processes and make them more efficient.
Signal processing analog and digital signals systems and filters
Different types of signals can also be used in analog signal processing. Classic analog signals include, for example, sine curves, pulses and also steps. Only signals that have a continuous value are analog. To analyze and process analog signals, i.e. to perform analog signal processing, analog means are required. The analysis can be performed in a discrete as well as in a continuous time frame. Typically, the processing involves some type of control, mitigation, noise reduction, or filtering. Primarily in electronics, analog signals are used in the context of physical information transmission. While fluctuations in the signal do not play a major role in digital signals, they play a major role in analog signals and always have significance.
The basics of signal processing and its diversity
In digital signal processing there is a fixed scheme. The sequence is always as follows: analog, digital, processing and finally analog again. Only during the digital section changes are made to the signal. Nowadays, the digital processing of signals is relevant in many ways.
Whether image, sound, film, for example television, music or telephony, digital signal processing occurs in all the areas mentioned. Such processing can take place in a wide variety of ways, which leaves plenty of room for individual handling of digital signals. For example, videos can be edited, photos can be processed or compressed, and audio files can be speeded up or slowed down. These are only a fraction of the possibilities and make clear how wide-ranging digital signal processing can be.
Signal processing pneumatics – The different forms of signal processing
Within pneumatic control there are different forms of signal processing. With the help of the kind of the information representation the different forms can be distinguished among other things from each other. A distinction can be made between synchronous, asynchronous, logic and sequence control. With synchronous control, signal processing is synchronous with a clock signal. In asynchronous signal processing, there is no clock signal. The changes of the signals are generated by the change of the input signals. The logic control is characterized by an assignment of certain signal states of the input signals to certain signal states of the output signals. Boolean logic operations are the basis for this. With sequence control, a step-by-step sequence takes place. When programming a sequential control, the conditions for further switching are defined, which determine the sequence.
